A porch is usually attached to the house and it is located at the front of the house (some porches wrap around the house).  Porches are constructed so they are elevated off the ground by a few feet.  Compared to decks and patios, porches are more narrow and they are almost always covered.  A porch allows you to sit in front of your house without being exposed to direct sun or rain.

A deck is also attached to a house but it is usually located at the back of the house. Like a porch, a deck is elevated off the ground; however, it is usually uncovered. For this reason, a deck can sometimes be called a “sun deck”. Most decks extend away from the house giving you and your friends more space to move around.
